Trenchless Services

Pipe Ramming

The solution for the toughest Type 3, Type 4 soils and cobble-filled grounds. We own the largest pipe ramming tool in Ontario.

The Process

Percussion Hammer Technology

Pipe ramming is a robust trenchless installation method used to advance steel casing pipe through soil using pneumatic impact hammers. The technique is particularly effective for short- to medium-length crossings beneath highways, railways, embankments, and other surface obstacles where open-cut excavation is not feasible. Pipe ramming performs reliably in a wide range of ground conditions—including cobbles, gravels, and mixed soils—without the need for slurry systems or active face control.

For owners and contractors, pipe ramming offers a fast, cost-effective solution with a small surface footprint and minimal disruption to traffic and surrounding infrastructure. Once the casing is installed, carrier pipes for utilities such as water, sewer, gas, or conduits can be placed inside the steel casing. Its simplicity, durability, and ability to handle challenging ground conditions make pipe ramming a dependable option in the trenchless construction toolbox.
