Vertical Foundation
Vertical shaft installations and secant pile construction—a terrific addition to our trenchless program to support your shaft needs.
Secant Piles
Secant pile construction creates retaining walls or foundations using overlapping concrete piles. The process involves installing reinforced concrete piles into the ground with partial overlap, forming a continuous, watertight barrier.
Using primary (reinforced) and secondary (unreinforced or lightly reinforced) piles, this method is ideal for challenging soil conditions requiring high ground or groundwater control.

Shaft Sinking
Vertical shaft sinking is a specialized construction method used to create precise, vertical access shafts for underground infrastructure. These shafts provide critical entry points for tunneling, microtunneling, utilities installation, and long-term operations such as ventilation, maintenance, and material handling. Depending on ground conditions, shafts may be constructed using conventional excavation, mechanical methods, or caisson techniques, with temporary and permanent linings installed to ensure stability, groundwater control, and worker safety.
Successful shaft sinking requires rigorous geotechnical analysis, careful sequencing, and tight control of tolerances. Excavation progresses in controlled stages, with ground support, dewatering, and lining installation integrated into the workflow to manage risk and maintain productivity. When executed properly, vertical shafts enable safe, efficient underground construction while minimizing surface disruption—making them a cornerstone of modern trenchless and subterranean projects.
